Rare Earth

Assignment from Digital Tools (Art 104)
Portland State University, Fall 2019

This installation is an investigation into the mining of rare minerals in the iPhone. Can you name five materials in your phone? Do you know how or where they are mined? What is their value on the global market?

For this project students chose an element in the iPhone and researched its origin. The group collected and scanned raw materials and projected those materials during an interactive campus exhibition.
